Description
A setting of a lesser known of the mystical poet George Herbert's texts, but one very appropriate for choirs today.

Review
"In the spirit of full disclosure, I must confess that A True Hymn was commissioned by my own parish a year ago as a surprise to me. It has proved to be a gift that keeps on giving. I had somehow never encountered its text, a characteristically rich little poem by George Herbert (beginning 'My joy, my life, my crown'), but it is splendid--and the setting captures it ideally. The music is broadly paced, the choral parts almost wholly homophonic, the organ part both supportive and suggestive. I am delighted that Selah has incorporated it into their series of settings of Herbert texts, and hope others will enjoy it, too." Alan Lewis in AAM Journal, November 2008
