Description
The text of this expressive anthem is a familiar prayer for forgiveness, made popular by Richard Farrant's Renaissance-era motet. This contemporary setting greatly enriches the meager repertoire of unaccompanied anthems for 3-part (SAB) voices.

Review
"Lord, for thy tender mercy's sake was commissioned by Brady Knapp's University Singers at Houston's University of St. Thomas. It is set for just three voice parts (with a few parts of divisi here and there). White successfully avoids the shadow of Richard Farrant's setting, and creates something new and compelling that choirs both small and large can enjoy." --AAM Journal, November 2008

Text
Lord, for thy tender mercy's sake,
lay not our sins to our charge,
but forgive that is past
and give us grace to amend our sinful lives;
to decline from sin and incline to virtue,
that we may walk in a perfect heart
before thee now and evermore.

--Lidley's Prayers, 1566
