Description
Phillips' Suite for Organ, Brass Quintet, and Percussion has been wildly successful and frequently performed by the best organists and brass quintets across the country and recorded multiple times. After performing and recording the Suite, the Air Force Academy Stellar Brass commissioned Craig Phillips to write another work for the same useful scoring. Prelude & Exultation is the result, and performers will enjoy it just as much as his Suite. The music begins mysteriously, with echoing brass textures over sustained chords in the organ. A series of fanfare-like ideas transform the texture into a fast, driving dialogue. The lyrical music of the opening continues to assert itselft amidst the "Exultation." The instrumentalists will have fun performing this exciting work, and it is the perfect new piece to perform with brass and timpani at any festive occasion and is easier than the “Suite.” Length is a little over 9 minutes.
