L. Edward Smith is the choir director at Alvarado High School in Alvarado, Texas, and is also the Director of Music Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Burleson, Texas. He and his wife Marcy live on three acres in the countryside just outside of Alvarado with Gracie, their spoiled Jack Russell terrier. At the church Smith and his wife ring handbells and lead the children's choir together. They have three sons: the oldest, Josh Essary, is a band director in Lorena, Texas; the middle son, Adam Essary, is studying criminology at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and is also singing in the choir; the youngest, Taylor Smith, is studying at Yale University.
