Description
This joyful anthem celebrates Christ's baptism in the Jordan and the baptism of the Spirit given to all believers. Powell's three-part choral writing is natural and accessible. Other than a brief section for the voices alone, the organ part supports the choir throughout.

Text
Arise, shine, for your Light is come!

Christ, when for us you were baptized,
God's Spirit on you came,
as peaceful as a dove and yet
as urgent as a flame.
God called you his beloved Son,
called you his servant true,
sent you his kingdom to proclaim,
his holy will to do.

Arise, shine, for your Light is come!

Straightway and steadfast until death
you then obeyed his call
freely as Son of Man to serve
and give your life for all.

Baptize us with your spirit, Lord
your cross on us be signed,
that, likewise in God's serve we
may perfect freedom find.

Arise, shine, for your light is come!

--F. Bland Tucker (1895-1984), rev.
