Description
With a text based on the Exsultet, this Easter anthem by Craig Phillips joins brass, timpani, organ, and choir together in an exultant celebration of the Resurrection. A fanfare-like figure for the word "rejoice" returns throughout as the music builds to a blazing Easter conclusion.

Text
Rejoice now, heavenly hosts and choirs of angels,
and let your trumpet shout Salvation
for the victory of our mighty King.
Rejoice and sing now, all the round earth,
bright with a glorious splendor,
for darkness has been vanquished by our eternal King.
Rejoice and be glad now, Mother Church,
and let your holy courts in radiant light,
resound with the praises of your people.

--from the Exsultet

Review
"Heraldic dotted rhythms, repeated patterns in the brass and organ, and a bold harmonic plan combine to make this triumphant Easter anthem immediately engaging. Choral parts are logical and intuitive, and voices frequently move in pairs (e.g., ST and AB), bolstering the vocal texture against the energetic activity of the accompaniment. A contrasting middle section introduces more legato lines and gentler dynamics, setting up a thrilling return to the opening material and culminating in a climactic final cadence with divided voices in eight-part harmony. With the text drawn from the Exsultet, this fine anthem would work well at the Great Vigil of Easter if the service includes brass, and it could equally work at the principal liturgy of Easter Day. The full score and parts are available for purchase at the Selah website." --AAM Journal, May/June 2026
