Description
These two pieces are inspiring for Lent, Easter, and throughout the year. Partita on Hamburg ("When I survey the wondrous cross") works well as a prelude, offertory, or extended hymn introduction. Toccata on Engelberg is a rousing composition. Hymnals often use this tune with several texts, including the Easter hymn "We know that Christ is raised" and Fred Pratt Green's "When in our music God is glorified."

Reviews
"Both settings will have great appeal with a minimum of effort in preparation."-Cross Accent, January 1994

"A partita on HAMBURG has four stanzas of the tune, the best being the first stanza in trio form with the left hand in running eighth notes. The second and third pages open so that all three pages stretch across the music rack. The superb toccata on ENGELBERG uses the same manual figure for both stanzas, but with the melody in the upper voice on the first stanza and in the pedals on the second, followed by a coda."-The American Organist, May, 1994

"This set contains a brief meditative prelude on Hamburg and a brilliant toccata on Engelberg. Mr. Lovelace's style is--as always--effective and reliable" -Pastoral Music, October-November 1999
