Introduction
1985 marked the last year that the Association of Anglican Musicians (AAM) gathered for their annual conference in North Texas. The conference took as its theme "A Celebration of Hymns" in order to mark the release, in that same year, of The Hymnal 1982. In planning the 2023 AAM Dallas Conference, the committee thought it apt to celebrate that selfsame and highly favored avenue of church music. The Dallas Hymnary is one aspect of that celebration. We are honored to present you this collection of American hymnody, penned by those who, past and present, have labored in the field of Episcopal Church music. As generation after generation contributes to the vast corpus of hymnody, let us continually recall: "The voice of prayer is never silent, nor dies the strain of praise away."
