Review
"This piece is an interesting and effective setting for organ of a ninteenth-century hymn not often heard today outside Southern Baptist churches. Its effect is almost dreamlike. The tune's transformation from the original 4/4 time to 6/4, along with the chromatic accompaniment, gives this piece an almost floating quality. It uses twentieth-century harmony throughout but never stretches the ear too much, and so would be enjoyed by those old enough in one's congregation to remember this tune from childhood. Of easy to moderate difficulty, it would work well as part of a memorial service prelude. The bitonal ending is a surprise."-The Hymn, Janunary 1993

Description
This piece is a sweet and peaceful meditation on the 19th-century hymn "Sweet By and By." Martin's score is not sentimental, but is respectful of the melody. A wonderful piece as a prelude or offertory, or even for funerals. Pedal requirements are basic.
